China is living in the future and most people don't realize it. It's seen progress in the last few years that puts many western countries to shame. Transport: – Literally flying cars, Xpeng AeroHT – Hong Kong to Shenzhen in <15min by high speed rail – Autonomous vehicles with far more coverage than Waymo / Tesla – Drones deliver food to stations (Meituan) – Robots that pick up delivered food and take it to your door – 10 large EV manufacturers that make cheaper cars with higher range and more luxury, which come with lidar / L3 autonomous driving (BYD, Aito, Zeekr, Great Wall, etc) – Battery swapping infrastructure (Nio) – Huawei has its own OS – Owns large chunks of global supply chain for electronics Lifestyle: – Effectively zero crime because of mass camera and security surveillance. No theft, no litter. (yes, I know this is a major talking point of western media) – Functional public transport networks, with different cabins for different temperature – Affordable housing; even lower income teachers can live comfortably in big cities – Firefighting drones – Almost no homeless people or trash – Electric buses and scooters; quieter cities – Rolling police robots with disarming weapons Technology – Cheap humanoid robots – Elaborate drone shows in the sky – Self driving trucks – Robot cappuccino makers – Dark factories primarily run by robots Yes, like any country, there are plenty of issues too. But the rate of progress, supported by the govt and unburdened by regulation, is unparalleled. Everyone should spend more time learning a bit more by China, free from any pre-existing bias.
